David Cone is returning to the Bronx as a TV announcer for the New York Yankees, the team for which he pitched a perfect game in 1999, the New York Post reported.
Cone, the 1994 American League Cy Young Award winner, will replace new Yankee manager Joe Girardi in the YES Network booth. He will work about 50 games, the paper said.
In addition to his game duties, Cone is scheduled to serve as host for the weekly program "Yankees on Deck," according to the Post. He is to replace David Justice, who recently took on a lesser role at YES.
Cone, 45, pitched for the Yankees, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox in a 17-year Major League career in which he compiled a 194-126 record.
