Holy cow!

Images2 Harry Caray's widow went off the other day on a new series of AT&T commercials featuring comedian John Camponera doing his dead-on impression of the legendary Chicago Cubs announcer while hawking cable TV service.

Appearing on WGN-TV, Dutchie Caray said the TV spots give her "shivers when I even think about it."

"I was gone the whole month of March and I didn't come back until a couple of days ago," she said. " ... It made me so sick and disgusted. ... What they did [was] so unprofessional, so jerky. ... I might make an AT&T commercial, wrap myself in telephone wire, ughl-ughl-ughl and act like an idiot dope."

Ouch! Anyhow, as striking as Camponera's impersonation is, our friend The Zoner in the Windy City has it right — there's no substitute for the original. In the wake of Mrs. Caray's rant, The Zoner got hold of a vintage Harry Caray clip from the Cubs' first-ever night game in 1988 and posted it on his blog Zoner Sports. It's good for a chuckle. Check it out.
