Smith on Knicks' GM short list

Images1 TNT's Kenny Smith is on the short list of those scheduled to interview for the general manager's job with the NBA's New York Knicks.

Smith confirmed a report in the New York Daily News on air Sunday, telling his "Inside the NBA" co-host Ernie Johnson there is "a possibility" he would be meeting this week with new Knicks president Donnie Walsh. Smith, Johnson and Charles Barkley are the regular co-hosts of the popular TNT studio show.

A former NBA guard, Smith played his high school ball in Queens and has been a part-time analyst the past two seasons for Knick telecasts on MSG.

Glen Grunwald currently holds the title of general manager but his status with the team remains unclear. He was hired by recently deposed president/head coach Isiah Thomas.

Also on the Knicks' radar is ESPN/ABC commentator Mark Jackson. The former New York point guard is interested in becoming the team's next head coach and interviewed with Walsh last week in Phoenix.
