Two red-hot, hard-charging teams will meet in the National League Championship Series when the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers begin squaring off Thursday to see who will go to the World Series.
The series is so close that TBS studio analysts Cal Ripken and Dennis Eckersley appear to be leaning in opposite directions.
Ripken: "It’s an advantage to the Phillies to start the
series in Philadelphia. I look at the right-handed power pitching of
the Dodgers; there is a counter to that with the left-handed power
hitting on the Phillies. It’s important how (Ryan) Howard and (Chase)
Utley perform in the series.”
Eckersley: “I think (the Dodgers and Phillies) match-up
pitching-wise, they both have depth in the starting rotation. Their
bullpens are comparable, both have powerful bullpens. It’s going to be
a great series. I really don’t know who to pick but I tend to lean
towards the Dodgers because of their top three starting pitchers.”
The NLCS starts Thursday on Fox. TBS will carry the American League Championship Series; the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays lead their divisional series 2-1.
